FAIRFAX, Va. — Fairfax County detectives are investigating a series of ATM thefts and armed robberies.
On Tuesday, officers were called to TD Bank located at 6566 Little River Turnpike in Lincolnia, after three robbers attempted to break into an ATM a little after 3 a.m. Officers say the robbers were unable to break into the machine, so no money was stolen.
Then 10 minutes later, officers received calls of an armed robbery that took place at a 7-Eleven down the street from the bank. According to employees, three men came into the store, claiming they had a gun, and threatened the employee in order to gain access to two ATMs inside of the store. The robbers were able to get away with the money that was inside the machines. At this time, we do not know how much money was taken.
Detectives believe the two crimes are connected.
They are also investigating two other incidents of ATM thefts that occurred last week. On November 2, three robbers entered a 7-Eleven at 6147 Franconia Road, flashed a gun, and stole money out of the ATM.
That same morning an employee reported someone tried to steal money from the ATM at the Burke and Herbert Bank at 5519 Franconia Road. Now, authorities are investigating if the two are related.
As Detectives actively work to identify the culprits from these robberies, they are asking anyone with information to call 703-246-7800. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 1-866-411-TIPS.
