SUITLAND, Md. — Neighbors who call the Village at Towne Square and the surrounding area in Suitland home, are fed up.
"We're all just very frustrated by the crime and the lack of our representatives doing anything about it," said Brandon, who has lived in the area for four years.
He was one of more than 40 people who came out to a community meeting Friday night.
Together, neighbors shared their frustrations about a slew of issues. From package thefts to car break-ins to a deadly shooting Thursday night.
"We heard the sounds and rushed back closer to the hallway," said Andy.
He told WUSA9 that he and his sister were sitting at the counter when they heard dozens of gunshots.
"We heard gunshots right outside the alley. We saw some people running," he explained. "I stepped back to the window to look outside, and they shot a couple more times, and this time the shots came through the kitchen window and hit the wall."
"I got lucky at this point, I'm just extremely lucky I didn't get hit," he said.
Andy told WUSA9 he immediately called 911 and was heartbroken to learn a teenager had been killed.
Other neighbors also described hearing the gunfire. Many of them saw people running from the scene holding guns. They were shocked to see something like that, let alone in broad daylight.
"I said what I can do, is move or fight," said Noelle, who came out to the community meeting to express her frustration.
"Suitland is a great community but it needs help it needs resources. You throw us into this saying we're going to get that and we haven't and this is why you're seeing what you saw yesterday. When unfortunately a young life was lost, where my God kids, her kids, could have been playing," said Tyrice Brown, who tells WUSA9 she is a homeowner and neighborhood watch block captain in the community.
No one from the Prince George's County Police Department or any county officials were in attendance at their meeting.
The neighbors told WUSA9 they plan to continue fighting for accountability, together as one.
"We're gonna execute that and hold our representatives accountable to do something about it," said Brown.
