Police accuse woman of attacking an officer in Prince William County

The Woodbridge resident fled the scene after striking the officer, police said.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Prince William County Police Department has arrested a woman who reportedly assaulted a police officer on June 21.

According to a police report, 22-year-old Alejandra Yvette Garcia was in the area of Saxophone Way and Bel Air Rd. in Woodbridge when just before 7:45 p.m. officers noticed her. Officers say Garcia had active arrest warrants so they attempted to detain her.

However, while trying to take Garcia into custody, police say she resisted and ran away. After running after her, officers attempted to again detain Garcia but they say she struck one of the officers before getting away.

The officer reportedly sustained minor injuries.

Four days later, Garcia was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice.
