'You would hope in your home that you are safe' | 20 people reported their homes were struck by gunfire in Prince William County this year

Police say two of the shootings are believed to be connected. However, it's unclear if any of the others are.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Since May of 2023, WUSA9 has found, through police records, that 58 homes have been struck by gunfire in Prince William County.

Monday night, WUSA9 spoke to the residents of a home on Cobb Court in Woodbridge, who say their home was hit by gunfire two nights in a row.

"They just started shooting and we couldn't understand what was going on," said Kendra who lives there.

She says her home was struck at least six times, and one of the bullets actually came into their home.

Prince William County Police told WUSA9 they also got similar calls, both nights, at a home on Alaska Road in Woodbridge.

"In both of those shootings there was a dark-colored sedan seen leaving and that's part of the reason police are looking at those possibly being related," said Prince William County Master Police Officer Renee Carr.

Monday night, another home in Prince William County was struck by gunfire, this time it was a home in Manassas.

Police say around 11:30 PM, they responded to a home on Shelley Lane in Manassas, to investigate a shots fired call.

Investigators say they a home in the area was struck by gunfire, and two men were seen running away.

WUSA9 did some digging, and found that just since the start of 2024, police have responded to at least 20 homes, for reports that they were struck by gunfire. Since May of 2023, 58 homes were reportedly struck. It's not clear how many, if any, other than the two on April 24 are connected.

WUSA9 stopped by one of the homes on Flotilla Way in Woodbridge, which police say was struck by gunfire just after midnight on May 3.

The homeowner says she and her son was inside the home when a bullet flew through.

Police say her home, along with three unoccupied cars were all hit by gunfire.

A window to the home was boarded up Tuesday night.

Less than 24 hours later, and about five miles away along Expedition Drive in Triangle, another home was hit by gunfire, according to police.

"I was sitting in my living room and I heard two shots," said the homeowner, who only wanted to be identified Jamilya.

She told WUSA9 it sounded pretty close. According to another neighbor, it was incredibly close.

"I'm thankful and blessed for the families that lived there that no one was hit," said Michael.

He told WUSA he lives across the street from the home that was struck.

Both called the incidents concerning.

"You would hope in your home and your school that you are safe. Especially when there's an elementary school on the corner. So, it's very concerning," said Jamilya.

Michael shared this message, to anyone thinking it might be funny to shoot into a home.

"Man, seek Jesus. seek Jesus," he said.
