WASHINGTON — The Wise Pumas are celebrating yet another championship after defeating the Broadneck Bruins 21 to 0 Friday night.
The team is proof hard work pays off.
Since beginning their offseason workout program in February, the team has endured eligibility issues and even opened their season with a loss.
The Wise Football Team responded with 12 consecutive wins, on their way to winning the Maryland 4-A State Championship in Annapolis on Friday.
"I was proud of them," Pumas Head Football Coach DaLawn Parrish said. "They've been through so much. It was a long season, dealing with internal issues inside the county and things of that nature. I thought Friday night, they executed so well. It made me proud. It was very proud moment."
The Wise High School program has become a dynasty. With Friday's 21 to 0 victory over Broadneck, the Pumas have now six state titles. Coach Parrish says everyone is apart of this journey.
"It's humbling," Coach Parrish said. "I don't take anything for granted. Football is the ultimate team sport. One person can't win a championship. It's a team effort. That's what I take from all of this."
The winning may not be over. The Pumas have several key starters returning next season. Do not be surprised to Wise competing for their seventh state crown next year.
