Authorities say several vehicles were found in the floodwaters.

BROOKEVILLE, Md. — One person was rescued early Monday after their vehicle was caught in floodwaters due to the heavy rain in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to Brighten Dam Road, near Bordly Drive, in Brookeville around 4:30 a.m. after a report of high waters in the area and one person needing to be rescued. Authorities say the driver left the vehicle and was swept downstream, which left them clinging onto a tree.

Fire and rescue were able to rescue the person by extracting them from the tree and water by using a boat.

Authorities say several vehicles were found in the flood waters. All other vehicle occupants have been accounted for. WUSA9's Jess Arnold at the scene stated that the area was dark, which could of caused the the extent of the flooding to be hard to see for drivers.

The high waters in the area has resulted in Brighton Dam Road to close between Bordly Drive and New Hampshire Avenue.

Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Commuters should also expect significant delays.
