Man faces charges for breaking into Rockville home Halloween night, police say

Investigators say the homeowner believed the intruder was a trick-or-treater at first.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A 23-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday after breaking into a Rockville home. Investigators say the homeowner believed the intruder was a trick-or-treater at first.

At 7:51 p.m., officers with Rockville City Police responded to a home on Pebble Ridge Court for a robbery in progress. The victims inside the home told police that a man rang the doorbell and then forced his way inside their home. The homeowner initially believed the man was a trick-or-treater.

After several minutes, the homeowner was able to force the suspect back outside, where a neighbor helped detain him until police arrived on the scene. The occupants of the home were unharmed as a result of the home invasion.

Police say a 23-year-old suspect was taken into custody and will be charged accordingly.

There is no word on what led up to the home invasion. Police have not yet revealed the identity of the suspect charged in this case nor said if they are a man or woman.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
