JOPPATOWNE, Md. — Joppatowne High School has announced it will remain closed until Thursday after a 15-year-old student was shot and killed on campus Friday.
Waren Curtis Grant was shot and killed in a first floor bathroom before his 16-year-old alleged shooter fled the school, police say. Grant was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
In an email and text sent to families Saturday night, Harford County Public Schools announced that the school will not bring students back until Thursday. Staff have the option to return at noon on Monday and will return on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 a.m. If students need to pick up anything from the school, they can come beginning at noon Monday and School Safety Liaisons will escort them inside.
HCPS also announced nearby schools, Magnolia Middle, Magnolia Elementary, Joppatowne Elementary and Riverside Elementary, would all be closed on Monday as well.
The school district will provide information about counseling services available to students and staff and meal distribution while the schools are closed on Sunday.

Jaylen Rushawn Prince was arrested the same day as he allegedly shot Grant after he attempted to break into a nearby house, according to police. Prince was taken into custody at 12:52 p.m., less than 20 minutes after the shooting.
Prince has been charged as an adult with murder, first and second-degree assault and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said it is still investigating what led to the shooting, but said that authorities do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the high school or community, or that any other suspects were involved.
