ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Investigators are asking for the public's help locating a car that may have contributed to a 23-vehicle crash that happened on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Saturday morning.
According to the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), the serious crash left more than 10 people injured, two of whom were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. All westbound lanes were closed for six hours following the crash.
Investigators with the MDTA Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are working to complete a full reconstruction of the initial 23-vehicle crash. An additional 20 vehicles were involved in secondary crashes as well.
"This reconstruction is a detailed process that typically takes months to complete as investigators analyze evidence such as interviews, physical evidence, medical records and more," MDTA said in a press release Monday.
MDTA Police now say a blue 2018 Honda Civic sedan was being driven at "high speeds and erratically" before the crash. They believe this vehicle may have contributed to the crash.
Anyone who witnessed the sedan traveling westbound on US-50, near the Bay Bridge between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, is asked to contact the MDTA Police at 443-454-8703.
