Family displaced after house catches fire

The occupants of the home self evacuated.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A family has been displaced after their house caught on fire Tuesday afternoon. 

At 4:33 p.m., Prince George's County Fire and EMS responded to a single-family home located at 24th Avenue and Bristol Place in Hillcrest Heights. When first responders arrived, the occupants of the house had already evacuated. 

Photos released on X, formerly known as Twitter, by officials show large flames shooting out from the roof and smoke engulfing the back of the entire house. 

The fire has since been put out. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials have not said how many people have been displaced. 

Residents living in the home are being assisted by Prince George's County Emergency Management with temporary housing.
