GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Five teenagers face charges in Montgomery County for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery on Oct. 4. Police say the teens took a victim's phone and AirPods at knifepoint as he was getting off a Metro bus that Wednesday.
At 9:34 p.m. on Oct. 4, officers with the Montgomery County Police Department responded to the 12400 block of Galway Drive for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.
The victim at the scene told police that he was getting off a Metrobus when he was grabbed from behind by multiple unknown suspects. The suspects then punched him several times before holding him at knifepoint and demanding his phone and AirPods. The victim complied and gave them his phone and AirPods. Investigators say the suspects ran away in an unknown direction at this point.
Through the course of an investigation, detectives identified a 14-year-old boy as one of the suspects and took him into custody on Nov. 6. He has been charged with armed robbery and assault.
On Nov. 10, Detectives charged four more suspects including two 15-year-old boys, a 15-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old girl, with armed robbery and assault. Their cases have been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services.
