6-year-old struck by FedEx truck in Silver Spring crash

The child was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A child was injured Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a FedEx truck in Silver Spring.

Officers with the Montgomery County Police Department responded to the area of Manchester Road and Schuyler Road just after 4 p.m. after receiving a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Through an initial investigation at the scene, police were able to determine that a 6-year-old boy was struck by a FedEx truck in a crash.

According to the police department, after the collision, the driver of the truck stopped and then asked the child if he was OK and left the area. Moments later, the driver returned to the scene.

The child was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash. The injuries have been described as "minor." The child is expected to recover. 

No additional information has been released about the crash including where the child is from and what happened leading up to it.

The investigation into the crash is active and ongoing. Police say it is too early in the investigation process to say whether or not the driver will be charged.
