Cat found following house explosion in Kensington

Everyone inside the home was evacuated safely and unharmed. They did however, report their pet cat was missing.

KENSINGTON, Md. — Montgomery County Fire and EMS are investigating a home explosion that occurred in Kensington, Maryland.

Fire and rescue crews were called out to the 4000 block of Byrd Road just before 2:45 p.m. for a house fire that resulted in an explosion. Everyone inside the home was evacuated safely and unharmed. They did however, report their pet cat was missing. 

Officials reported that the missing cat has been located and is safe. 

Crews did a preliminary investigation and believe the fire was gas fed involving both a gas and electric meter. Units from multiple station were dispatched and worked for over an hour to extinguish the fire from inside in this extreme heat. 

Washington Gas and Pepco have been called out to the home to investigate and restore services.
