UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A former Prince George’s County Deputy Sheriff has been found guilty of second-degree rape.
According to an indictment, in September 2022, the sheriff’s office was made aware of an incident that occurred between Brandon Burroughs and a female acquaintance resulting in both parties obtaining Temporary Protective Orders. Burroughs was suspended with pay and placed on Administrative Status pending the outcome of the investigation.
On October 24, 2022, the same woman obtained a second temporary protective order after the first one was dismissed. Unfortunately, that order was dismissed as well on December 12, 2022.
Burroughs and the victim share a child together.
According to court records, in October 2022, Burroughs went to the victim’s home and refused to leave. After refusing to leave the victim’s house, he went to her bedroom and raped her while their child was in another room. The victim had a surveillance system inside the home at the time. The system was able to pick up the audio, which the victim was forced to listen to later on.
During the investigation, Burroughs reportedly attempted to intimidate the victim from reporting the assault, by using his connection to members of law enforcement.
When Burroughs was questioned by police about the rape he responded, “I know why I am here, because she is mad, she is a sidepiece and wants to be with me.”
Burroughs’ sentencing is scheduled for May 21.
