MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A Maryland man is facing life in prison for raping a woman in a hotel.
On Thursday, a jury found Arash Khosh guilty on charges of first-degree rape, home invasion, and second-degree assault. According to court documents, the victim and her husband were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn located in the 14000 block of Shady Grove Road in Rockville.
On May 14, 2022, the victim and her husband checked into the hotel. The following morning, the victim’s husband went down to the first floor of the hotel to grab coffee, while the victim remained in the room.
Court documents say. just before 9:15 a.m., Khosh knocked on the victim’s door alongside a hotel employee. He told the employee that he was staying in the victim’s room. The victim told police she informed the employee they had the wrong room. Khosh and the employee then left.
A few moments later, the victim heard a knock on the door again. When she opened it, Khosh had returned and forced his way into her room. The victim tried to escape, but Khosh grabbed her by her waist and pulled her back inside. He then proceeded to sexually assault her.
The victim texted her husband immediately and called the police as soon as Khosh left her room. She was later taken to Shady Grove Hospital for her injuries.
A hotel employee provided police with guest records that showed Khosh had checked in on May 13, 2022.
Police interviewed the employee, who was with Khosh during the first encounter with the victim. They told officials they saw him attempting to open the door to the room the victim was staying in. They said they stood beside Khosh attempting to help because they thought he was locked out.
In the following days, investigators were contacted by Rockville Police, who had contact with Khosh four days before the assault. Police say when speaking with Khosh he reportedly admitted to the rape.
“We thank the victim for her courage to testify before the court. This defendant attacked a vulnerable woman in our community and the victim’s brave actions will help to prevent him from targeting anyone else,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy.
Khosh will be sentenced on April 29.
