How Baltimore is getting ready to host AFC Championship game

The mayor is calling on all citizens to wear purple Friday and decorate homes and businesses to support the Ravens.

BALTIMORE — Baltimore is preparing for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs with numerous events, bringing the city alive.

Mayor Brandon Scott is urging all citizens to wear Ravens purple and decorate their homes for "Purple Friday" as the weekend launches. The team is encouraging fans to share photos of their Purple Friday displays with the hashtag #dontblink.

Friday, the Ravens' playoff Purple Friday Caravan will make a number of stops in the region. One will be at the Reckless Shepherd Brewing Co. (8895 McGaw Road) in Columbia, Maryland. The caravan will be there from 7:15 a.m. – 8:15 a.m.

The caravan will feature Ravens legends, cheerleaders and Baltimore's Marching Ravens, and -- of course-- there will be giveaways. 

Additional stops will include:

  • Dunkin' Donuts at 8600 Washington Boulevard in Jessup, Maryland. The Ravens be there between 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. 
  • Verizon at 9021 Snowden Square Drive in Columbia, Maryland, from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
  • Safeway at 4370 Montgomery Road in Ellicott City, Maryland, which is where they will be from 10-45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

More caravan celebrations are planned for later in the day Friday in Baltimore City:

  • Wayward Bar & Kitchen at 1117 S. Charles Street (from 6 p.m. to  6:40 p.m.)
  • James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant at 616 President Street, (from 7:05 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.) 
  • Waterfront Hotel at 1710 Thames Street (from 8 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.) 
  • Claddagh Pub at 2918 O'Donnell Street (from 8:55 p.m. to 9:35 p.m.)   

A Ravens pop-up shop that turned out enthusiastic fans when it opened Thursday will continue to operate at M&T Bank Stadium through Saturday.

The team is also inviting fans to upload photos which could be selected to be displayed on electronic billboards around the city.  The team is offering prizes for participating fans, and conducting a Week of Winning giveaway with daily prizes which include autographed photos, autographed jerseys, and autographed footballs.

Tickets for Sunday's game were being resold on StubHub Thursday for as much as $1,100 per seat.
