Man charged with kidnapping after shooting that left man with life-threatening injuries

After the shooting, police say the suspect took a young girl from the scene. She's a family member. He dropped her off with another family member.

OXON HILL, Md. — An Oxon Hill man is facing kidnapping charges after a shooting Thursday night that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Just after 9 p.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of Livingston Road for a shooting outside of a business.

When they arrived, officers found a man who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the alleged gunman is a relative of the victim.

After the shooting, police said the suspect abducted a young girl from the scene; she's also a relative.

Officers with the Prince George's County Police Department and D.C. Police located the suspect's vehicle around 11:30 p.m.

D.C. Police stopped the suspect's vehicle and took him into custody without incident in Southwest D.C.

He was identified as Wayne Summers, 62, of Oxon Hill.

Police said Summers dropped off the girl at another family member’s home in Washington before his arrest; she was unharmed.

An investigation is ongoing, but detectives believe the shooting happened amid an ongoing dispute.

Summers is charged in connection to the shooting, and he's been charged with kidnapping. He's in custody in Washington where he was arrested pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
