FREDERICK, Md. — On Tuesday, the Frederick Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Special Response Team executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence located at the 5900 block of Jefferson Commons Way, Frederick. This was part of an ongoing investigation into an armed robbery that took place back in July.
The focus of the search warrant was to gather evidence related to the armed robbery. Hidden away in the bedroom of a 16-year-old, who is currently being considered a suspect in the robbery, police say was an unregistered AR-15 style pistol with two fully loaded magazines.
Following the discovery, the teenager was immediately arrested and taken to Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing. The teen is now facing charges under two Maryland statutes: Possession of a Regulated Firearm by a Minor and Possession of a Firearm without a Serial Number.
At this time it is unknown if the gun retrieved from the home is the same one used during the armed robbery. Detectives will have to run tests and review surveillance videos from the scene before being able to determine if the gun is a match.
While this operation led to the arrest of a teenager with an unregistered gun, it’s important to note that the investigation into the armed robbery itself is still ongoing.
