Man walking in Bailey's Crossroads shot in the back with crossbow

The weapon penetrated his backpack, piercing through his skin, and impaling his back.

FAIRFAX, Va. — A man is recovering after being shot with a crossbow in Bailey's Crossroads Sunday.

Shortly after midnight, Fairfax County Police received calls of shots fired. When they arrived at the 3400 block of Carlin Springs Road, they were shocked by their discovery. The shots that were reported weren’t your typical gunshots. Instead, it was shots from a crossbow

Officers found a man wounded with an arrow sticking out of his back. Initial reports say the victim was walking on the sidewalk when his backpack was hit by the arrow. The weapon penetrated his backpack, piercing through his skin, and impaling his back.

Once Fairfax Police and first responders were on the scene, the victim was quickly transported to a hospital. During the initial evaluation, responders determined the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Upon his arrival at the hospital, healthcare employees determined the initial evaluation was accurate. The victim had the arrow removed from his back, received treatment, and was discharged.

Detectives are actively searching for the suspect, so they can uncover the motive behind this shooting.

At this time the shooter still remains at large. Detectives are asking the community to come together to assist police in capturing the shooter. You’re asked to contact the police with any information that you may have.
