New Year's Eve homicide started as robbery in Capitol Heights, police say

Investigators believe the two men shot the victim during a robbery and did not know him beforehand.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — Two young men are facing charges in connection to a deadly shooting that happened on New Year's Eve in Capitol Heights.

According to the Prince George's County Police Department, the shooting happened in the 1400 block of Dunbar Oaks Drive around 10:30 p.m. Officers arrived and found 36-year-old Nelson Bonilla-Reyes suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. 

Months later, police arrested 18-year-old Bilal Ansariddeen of Bowie and 19-year-old Kiemontey Jenifer of Washington, D.C. in connection to Bonilla-Reyes's death. 

Investigators believe Ansariddeen and Jenifer shot Bonilla-Reyes during a robbery and did not know the victim beforehand.

Ansariddeen and Jenifer are charged with first and second-degree murder and other related charges. Ansariddeen is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status. Jenifer is in custody in Washington, DC, on a no bond status awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
