WASHINGTON — Another violent night in the District, as the Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate a series of shootings across D.C. late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
Within approximately three hours, authorities responded to three separate shootings in Southeast, Northwest, and Northeast that left a total of two man and one teenage boy dead, and a woman and a teenage boy hospitalized.
At 10:46 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to a shooting in the area of Bruce Place and Ainger Place Southeast. At the scene, officers located a teenage boy suffering from gunshot wounds, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police later identified him as 17-year-old Quentin Brown.
Nearly an hour and a half later at 12:09 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the intersection of 10th Street and Spring Road Northwest in Columbia Heights for the sound of gunfire. Upon arriving, they located three shooting victims. A 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and a teenage boy were taken to an area hospital conscious and breathing for treatment. They are expected to survive.
Then, 15 minutes later at 12:24 a.m., following the triple shooting in Columbia Heights, officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the 4500 block of Sheriff Road Northeast after responding to a shooting at that location.
The victim was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. He was identified as 38-year-old Ricky Canty, of Temple Hills, Maryland.
Currently, there is no suspect lookout or motive. All of the shootings remain under investigation and detectives are still reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses.
Commander Kevin Kentish with MPD said Thursday that there is no evidence the shootings are connected.
Anyone who may have information about any of these shootings is urged to call police at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
