WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a man who shot a father who was walking in Columbia Heights with his daughter Tuesday night.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to 14th Street Northwest, nearby Park Road Northwest and the Wells Fargo bank, after a report of a shooting. Authorities were alerted after the victim walked into the nearby fire station seeking help.
According to a police report, the victim was shot was walking on the eastside sidewalk area with his daughter.
When they got to Monroe Street, they began to cross 14th Street. At that time, a person was crossing Monroe Street and started yelling at a man and other people standing in front of 3345 14th Street Northwest, which is Creole on 14th – a restaurant.
The man who was being yelled at pulled out a gun and started to shoot at the unknown person but struck the father in the leg and then fled the area south on 14th Street, the report says.
Police say they are looking for a man who appeared to be 19-20 years old, 5-foot-5 and 130 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood, silver chain with a cross, and was armed with a handgun at the time of the shooting.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
