WASHINGTON — Firefighters worked quickly Monday morning to extinguish flames at a D.C. row home Monday morning. Now a family is without a place to call home.
According to DC Fire and EMS, crews were called to a two-story end row home for a report of smoke in the 1700 block of W Street Southeast. Firefighters were first called to the scene just before 3:30 a.m.
When crews got to the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the first floor of the home, as well as the rear porch. Crews were able to bring the flames under control and no injuries were reported.
However, first responders did have to provide treatment to a pet dog and cat at the scene. Both pets are recovering well, firefighters said.
In all, three adults, two children and the dog and cat were displaced by the blaze. The Red Cross has been notified to provide help.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No other details were immediately available.
