WASHINGTON — Police have released photos of a man wanted in connection to the deadly assault of a transgender woman in Northwest D.C. The man captured by surveillance cameras is identified as a person of interest in the death of 30-year-old Anee Roberson.

Police have not directly said the man is a suspect.

At 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 14, officers were flagged down for a person in the roadway in the 900 block of U Street. Police learned that a woman was assaulted and then struck by a car. The person who hit her stayed at the scene and was not involved in the initial assault. She was taken to an area hospital where she later died due to her injuries.

Further investigation revealed Roberson was a transgender woman. Police say her death is not being investigated as a hate crime.

Detectives are working to identify the suspects who assaulted Roberson resulting in her death.
