Man hit by car in Southeast DC, driver leaves him to die

The driver left after hitting the 65-year-old, leaving him to die.

WASHINGTON — Police are searching for the driver who left a 65-year-old man to die after hitting him with their car in Southeast D.C. Saturday evening.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened just after 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Texas Avenue and Chaplin Street, Southeast. 

Investigators say 65-year-old William Bush of Southeast, D.C., was walking across the street in or near the north crosswalk when he was hit by a silver or gray sedan. The driver fled northbound in the 4400 block of Texas Avenue SE, leaving Bush to die at the scene. 

The MPD Major Crash Investigations Unit is actively searching for the driver. 

Anyone with information on the sedan, or who the driver may be, is asked to contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
