WASHINGTON — Former GOP Representative of the DC Board of Elections, Mike Gill, passed away on Saturday. Gill was admitted to a hospital on Monday night with life threatening injuries after being shot.
On Monday evening, a man experiencing a mental health crisis went on an hours-long rampage that ended when he was killed by officers in Prince George’s County, Maryland. However, the violence began in D.C. at 5:45 p.m.
That’s where the shooter found Gill sitting in his car along K Street in Northwest and shot him. Gill got out of the car and collapsed on the sidewalk. He was rushed to the hospital shortly after in critical condition.
Hospital staff did everything they could, but unfortunately, Gill succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Saturday.
His wife issued a statement following his death.
“It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill. His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and assistance. Thank you for respecting our privacy as we mourn the loss of an incredible man.” Kristina Gill said in her statement.
Gill moved to Washington, D.C. in 1993 where he began his career. Gill served as an aide on Capitol Hill, at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and at the Housing Policy Council.
When the President of the Housing Policy Council heard news of Gill’s passing he issued a statement on behalf of himself and the council.
“Mike’s death is also a huge loss for the Housing Policy Council and for the Washington, DC community, which has lost an outstanding citizen, neighbor, co-worker, and friend.” Ed DeMarco said in a statement. “Since 2021, Mike has led the Housing Policy Council’s capital markets work. His HPC colleagues mourn his loss. We admired Mike personally and professionally; he was an outstanding lawyer, public servant, colleague, and community member, giving his time and talent in service to his country, his city, his church, and his community.” DeMarco continued.
Gill leaves behind his wife Kristina Gill and three children.
