Food delivery driver carjacked and shot in NE DC

When he went back to his car to grab the last few items, the carjacker approached him. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his car keys.

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday night. 

Officers received a call a little after 10:30 p.m. of shots fired. They arrived at 14th Street, Northeast where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was conscious was help arrived at the scene. First Responders rendered aid immediately. 

The man was taken to an area hospital shortly after, his current condition is unknown. 

After being treated, the victim was able to provide officers with details leading up to the shooting. The victim told police that he was delivering some food in the area. The delivery was large, so he had to make more than one trip to-and-from his car.

When he went back to his car to grab the last few items, the carjacker approached him. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his car keys. Frightened, the victim complied and gave away his keys. 

As the suspect was getting into the car, the victim told him he was going to call the police. Reacting to this threat, the carjacker turned and shot the victim. He then proceeded to drive away, leaving the victim in the street bleeding out.

A neighbor has posted signs at the intersection where the carjacking took place to bring awareness to the case. He has asked to remain anonymous but told WUSA9, "This idea was to bring additional visibility and awareness to these incidents. And prompt people to be both a bit more vigilant and more active in seeking solutions."

On Sunday, the stolen car was recovered in the 1600 block of E Street, Northeast.

Police say they still have to review cameras in the area before releasing any information on the suspect.
