Lockdown lifted at 2 schools after DC barricade situation along Iowa Avenue NW

The barricade started around 7:44 a.m. Monday in the 4400 block of Iowa Ave NW after police tried to execute a search warrant in the area, officials said.

WASHINGTON — A man has been taken into custody after a barricade situation in NW D.C. that impacted traffic and forced two schools to be placed on lockdown, police said.

The barricade started around 7:44 a.m. Monday in the 4400 block of Iowa Ave NW after police tried to execute a search warrant in the area, officials said. It ended shortly before 11:30 a.m., police said.

The man, who barricaded himself, has since been taken into custody, police said. He has not yet been identified. There was no indication anyone else was with him, police said.

Traffic was impacted for several hours from 4400 block of Iowa Ave to Webster Street, NW. Allison Street between 13th Street and Georgia Avenue NW and Buchanan Street between 13th Street and Georgia Avenue NW, officials said.

The situation prompted a lockdown for several hours at MacFarland Middle School and Theodore Roosevelt High School, police said.
