According to investigators, the driver of a silver two-door Honda Accord pulled up behind the off-duty sergeant at a "high rate of speed."

WASHINGTON — New details have emerged regarding a shooting that left an off-duty DC Housing Authority Police sergeant injured in Northeast D.C. on Tuesday.

The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. as the sergeant was driving to work along the 2300 block of New York Avenue, Northeast.

According to investigators, the driver of a silver two-door Honda Accord pulled up behind the off-duty sergeant at a "high rate of speed."

As the sergeant reportedly slowed down, the driver of the Honda Accord pulled up next to him. When the sergeant motioned for the driver to move on, the driver allegedly pointed a gun at him. As the sergeant attempted to grab his gun, the driver opened fire on him, hitting him.

The sergeant has only been identified as a 27-year veteran of the department.
