WASHINGTON — As temperatures start to drop and days become more festive during the holiday season, one activity many gravitate towards involves strapping on ice skates. And when it comes to one of the best places to go -- the nation's capital is home to one of the best locations in the country, according to experts.
USA Today is working to develop their 10 Best Readers' Choice 2023 list for favorite ice skating rink. To do this, 20 rinks were nominated by an expert panel to determine the best locations in the country that provide "superior ice skating experiences."
"From nostalgic outdoor rinks to venues with Olympic history, each one offers something special," the website says about the 20 ice skating rinks.
Some of the nominated locations include Beaver Creek Ice Rink in Beaver Creek, Colorado; The Rink At Bryant Park in New York City, New York; Guidant John Rose Minnesota Oval in Roseville, Minnesota; and Curry Village Ice Rink in Yosemite National Park. In addition, the Ice Rink at the Sculpture Garden in D.C. made the cut.
"The Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. transforms into an icy winter wonderland where skaters can glide past the works of contemporary sculptors," the website says. "The Pavilion Café offers panoramic views of the rink for those that need a breather."
People can vote for their favorite rink once per day until Monday, Dec. 4 at noon ET. The 10 winning rinks will be announced on Friday, Dec. 15.
As of the morning of Nov. 27, the D.C. location was ranked number 16 on the list.
