ZooLights returns to Smithsonian National Zoo

This year, $6 tickets will be required.

WASHINGTON — ZooLights, a tradition at the Smithsonian National Zoo, is back for its 15th year.

This year, each attendee will need to purchase a $6 ticket, including for children over the age of two. Previously, the event was free. There is also flat-rate parking fee of $30.

"The ticket fee is needed to offset the significant increase in costs associated with running this event," event officials said in a press release.

The zoo will be lit by 500,000 lights, according to the Smithsonian website. There will be live music, food options and shopping at the event.

Here is the schedule for the holiday season:

WEEK 1 | Nov. 24, 25, 26 | Friday to Sunday

WEEK 2 | Dec. 1, 2, 3 | Friday to Sunday

WEEK 3 | Dec. 8, 9, 10 | Friday to Sunday

WEEK 4 | Dec. 15, 16, 17 | Friday to Sunday

WEEK 5 | Dec. 21, 22, 23 | Thursday to Saturday

WEEK 6 | Dec. 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 | Tuesday to Saturday

Organizers remind visitors that animal exhibits will be closed during the ZooLights events, and ZooLights will be held rain or shine.
