WASHINGTON — A construction worker was taken to the hospital Monday after a section of overhang loosed on a building on the campus of Howard University.
DC Fire and EMS were called to the 600 block of Girard Street Northwest around 12:30 p.m. for an initial report of a collapse. When firefighters got to the scene, they found the overhang on the building had fallen, injuring a worker. The worker was evaluated by firefighters on scene.
Vito Maggiolo, a spokesperson for the department, said the worker had serious, but not life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the loosened overhang is still under investigation, according to a spokesperson for the university.
Additional details were not immediately available.
