Shootout on DC streets caught on camera

Police are still searching for the people involved.

WASHINGTON — Police are looking for the people who opened fire in the middle of a Southeast D.C. neighborhood over the weekend. Surveillance video shared with WUSA9 shows the scary moments that shots rang out Saturday morning.

The shooting reportedly happened in the 2400 block of Elvans Road Southeast at around 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 25.

WARNING: The video above and below could be disturbing for some viewers as it shows gun violence. Viewer discretion advised.

At the beginning of the video shared by a neighbor, one person is seen walking down a sidewalk before a burst of rapid gunfire is heard. The person walking down the street ducks and runs out of the frame. You can hear neighbors shouting before more shots are fired.

About 10 gunshots are heard, and then a person dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask runs from a driveway next to a playground. The person fires one shot from the middle of the street, and more shots are heard in response. About eight more shots are heard on the video.

The masked person is then picked up by a white sedan and it speeds away with tires screeching. It appears to be an Acura.

Police say no one was hurt in the shooting, and so far no arrests have been made in this case.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Metropolitan Police Department investigators at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.

This shocking video comes at a time when D.C. leaders are grappling with high crime rates across the District. After a violent weekend, crime stats show a total of 250 homicides in D.C. so far this year. That's up 34% from last year, when police investigated 187 homicides to this point. It is also the highest number of homicides reported in D.C. in 20 years.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has introduced new anti-crime legislation to address the issue, and declared an emergency specifically aimed at addressing youth crime in D.C.
