'Rest in Power' | Air Force member who died protesting for Palestine remembered

Voices pushed for peace across the Palestinian territory while honoring a man they view as a martyr.

WASHINGTON — Hundreds gathered in front of the Israeli Embassy in Northwest, D.C. Monday night to honor a 25-year-old active duty Air Force airman who died after setting himself on fire outside the building on Sunday.

Aaron Bushnell of San Antonio, Texas died from injuries he sustained after lighting himself ablaze outside the embassy while protesting for Palestine.

With signs reading "Rest in Power" and "I stand with Aaron," community members pushed for peace across the Palestine territory while honoring a man they view as a martyr.

Organizers vowed to return to this exact spot on Saturday at 1 p.m., with many saying they'll bring all their energy in an effort to convince leaders to bring an end to the conflict.

In New York City Monday night, President Biden told reporters he's hopeful for a ceasefire by this time next week. The president, who is facing protests, votes in Tuesday's Michigan Primary as Democrats consider voting " uncommitted" in response to his handling of the Israeli-Hamas war.
