Downed trees, flooding, power outages reported across DC during severe storms

Frederick police reported at least a half dozen flooded roads, trees blocking streets and traffic lights without electricity. Damage reported in other counties, too.

WASHINGTON -- As severe weather moved though the Washington D.C. area, there were several reports of damage from wind and flooding. 

Parts of the D.C. Metro region remained under severe thunderstorm watches and warnings until 9 p.m., with storms bringing hail and damaging wind gusts.

FREDERICK COUNTY

In Frederick, police reported at least a half dozen flooded roads, trees blocking streets and traffic lights without electricity.

At 3:09 p.m., Frederick County fire officials reported a building collapse along the 5000 block of Mussetter Road. No one was inside the building, officials said.

A tree fell on a home on the 4000 block of Prices Distillery Road around 3:25 p.m., Frederick County fire officials said. One person was helped out of the home, which was significantly damaged, officials said.

A tree came down on a house in Ijamsville as well, at 5161 Mussetter Road.

Ryan Miller, the son of the owner of the damaged house, sent WUSA9 a photo of the interior. He said no one was home at the time the tree came down, and no one was hurt. He said they already have other accommodations.

MTA Maryland said Brunswick Line Train 891 (3:45 departure from Washington) would not be able to reach Monocacy or Frederick Station due to the severe weather. Frederick Transit said they sent buses to Point of Rocks to take the   passengers stuck waiting at the station.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Officials in Montgomery County report a home was struck by lightning along Overlook Court in Bethesda. 

ALEXANDRIA

Just before 5:30 p.m., police confirmed the 1300 block of Trinity Drive was closed due to a tree limb that fell onto a power line. 

The Alexandria Police Department said they are assisting with traffic control and asked drivers to avoid the area.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

The Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport was under a tornado warning for a short time, halting airline operations. 

HOWARD COUNTY

A tornado warning was reported in Columbia and Severn areas of Howard County. Brian Longest captured the following video of what appears to be funnel clouds in Columbia.

Jason Okenhendler also captured the following video as storms moved through Columbia, Maryland. WUSA9's Melissa Nord says it appears to be a shelf cloud. 

FAIRFAX COUNTY

Fairfax County Police reported Old Mill Road closed in both directions between Rosemary Way and Douge Drive in the Woodlawn area of Mount Vernon due to downed trees and wires. Officials asked people to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
