WASHINGTON — United Way of the National Capital Area hosted a Women United event on Thursday that brought together incomparable young ladies from both D.C. and Prince George’s County high schools.
The purpose of the event was to boost confidence in the ladies of H.D. Woodson High School and Largo High School, by exposing them to otherworldly women who once walked in their shoes. It also raised awareness of the different college and career pathways one may take after high school.
Women United included a panel discussion featuring conversations of various professions, a Q&A session, and a menstrual kit-packing activity. The young ladies invited to this event left with feminine hygiene products to take with them.
Speakers included Rosie Allen-Herring, President and CEO, United Way of the National Capital Area, along with Dena Wilson, Executive Director of Advancement and The Foundation at Prince George’s Community College. Panelists included Elise Shutzer, Exxon Mobil; Dr. Karen Hardy, George Mason University; Dr. Gina Brown, Howard University; Erica Ford, Ernst & Young; and Jamie M. Hill, Pepco.
