WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A woman who lives in Woodbridge says she woke up to the sound of gunshots around 1 a.m. Thursday. After making sure her parents, sister, and 9-year-old son were safe, they went back to sleep.
However, hours later, the family discovered three bullet holes pierced the front side of their home.
"We never imagined it was our house," she explained. The woman didn't want to be identified, but she said later she discovered more evidence inside their home.
"I was in the hallway, and I looked down and saw one of the bullet casings in the hallway on the floor," she explained. "No more than five feet from [my son's] bedroom."
The family called Prince William County Police who told them some alarming news.
"The last time something like this happened, it happened two nights in a row," the woman said.
This is at least the 63rd instance of gunfire in Prince William County since May of 2023, according to records kept by WUSA9. Just last Monday, we spoke to homeowners who live in Cobb Court in Woodbridge whose homes were also hit.
The family says it immediately bought and installed a ring camera, but this shooting shattered the sense of security in their home.
"Now you kind of have that anxious feeling – will it happen again cause it’s random? So it’s like how often are you going to be that random house?" she explained. "So of course we got no sleep last night."
Police have not said that any of these incidents are related. But this woman says she knows what she would say to whoever is hitting these homes with gunfire.
"We’re good people here. We’re a good community. We don’t deserve to live in fear," she said.
