CLINTON, Md. — Police are searching for answers after a woman was found shot in her home late Monday night. The woman was taken to the hospital when police arrived, and is currently recovering.
Officers with the Prince George's Count Police Department were called to the 9200 block of Spring Acres Road in Clinton just before 10 p.m. for a reported shooting. Once officers got to the scene, they found a woman had been shot while inside her home.
WUSA9's Jess Arnold spoke to the couple who lives in the home. They say they are both grateful to be alive. The woman is in her 70s. She was grazed in the back of the head by a bullet. She has since been released from the hospital.
The woman's husband walked us through his home, where he counted at least 20 bullet holes. Bullet holes were found in their bedroom, upstairs living area and downstairs living area. The glass door at the front of the home is completely shattered.
The husband, who asked that his identity be protected, said he is thankful things didn't turn out worse.
"Thank the Lord," he said. "He covered us pretty good last night with His hands. We're so grateful for that."
He said his wife was asleep and he was getting ready to go to sleep when the gunfire began.
"The gunshots just started and we didn't know what was happening at first. We thought it was firecrackers. We heard them zooming through the house, the bullets. We just hit the floor. It's all we could do at the time," he said.
The couple has been living in the area for almost 30 years and has never had a problem.
The couple says they have no idea who would have done this, so they think it may be a case of mistaken identity.
The shooting investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone who may have information for detectives is urged to call Prince George's County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
