Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle that fled the scene in Fairfax County

FORT HUNT, Va. — A pedestrian is dead after a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in Virginia.

Fairfax County Police responded to a deadly crash at Route 1 and Woodlawn Trail in Fort Hunt. When they arrived, they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who hit the man fled in the vehicle.

Detectives from FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash, Southbound Route 1 was closed at Belvoir Drive, but has since reopened. 

Police have not issued a lookout or description of the person or vehicle that fled the crash. They also have not released any details about the man who died.

The area of Route 1 and Woodlawn Trail is both commercial and residential. On Route 1, there is a McDonald’s, a frozen yogurt store, a gas station, a Pizza Hut and a laundromat, among other places.  Further into Woodlawn Trail, the area is residential.
