WASHINGTON — It was another violent night in the District. Police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Just after midnight, officers responded to a woman shot at the intersection of West Virginia Avenue and Mt Olivet Road in Northeast, this is near Gallaudet University. The woman was taken to an area hospital for help after the shooting.

Police originally reported that the woman had died but later rectified the mistake, saying she remains in critical condition at an area hospital.

Officers have since arrested 40-year-old Israel Beairs of Northeast, D.C., and charged him with assault with intent to kill while armed.

Nearly 20 minutes later, another shooting was reported on P Street in Southwest, outside of the Washington Channel. One man was found shot and taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police are on the lookout for two men in connection to this shooting. The man shot is expected to be ok.

Anyone with more information on these shootings is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department by calling 202-727-9099 or texting the department's tip line at 50411.
