MANASSAS, Va. — Police say a 17-year-old boy is facing multiple charges after shooting into an apartment building in Manassas and stealing from an area Walmart.
On Tuesday, the teen was arrested in connection to the shooting at the Coverstone Apartments on April 26.
Officers were investigating an unrelated crime at the nearby Walmart on Sudley Road when store security let them know of two people trying to steal from the store. When officers approached these suspects, both ran away. Officers were able to catch up with one of the suspects and took him into custody. The suspect was determined to be the same teen wanted in connection to the shooting at Coverstone Drive on April 26.
The teen was then arrested and charged with two counts of attempted malicious wounding, two counts of shooting into an occupied home, two counts of pulling out a gun, one count of using a gun while committing a felony, one count of possession of a gun as a minor, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of larceny. A court date is pending for the teen. He is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center for the time being.
On April 26, at 5:25 p.m., officers responded to the Coverstone Apartments located on Coverstone Drive in Manassas to investigate after shots were fired. An investigation revealed that a 19-year-old man was approached by two unknown men and a family member. One of the unknown men reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim. An argument began before both groups of people separated.
A short time later, the victim says he saw the same suspects approach him before firing multiple shots. Two apartments were struck by gunfire during the shooting. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.
Detectives are still searching for a second person involved in the shooting at the apartment complex.
