SILVER SPRING, Md. — Montgomery County Police are searching for four to five men believed to be connected to multiple robberies, carjackings, and a shooting in Silver Spring on Tuesday.

Just before 7:30 p.m., police received multiple calls for reports of armed robberies in the area of University Blvd and Piney Branch Road.

Preliminary investigation determined that the group allegedly committed three armed robberies and an armed carjacking within a 30 to 40 minute stretch.

The armed carjacking took place along the 500 block of Domer Avenue. The group was attempting to carjack someone, when a witness nearby intervened from their car. The suspects shot at the witness, forcing them to drive away. Investigators say the suspects followed and continued shooting at the witness.

Officers witnessed the cars in the area of Piney Branch Road and began following both cars down University Blvd near 495. The suspects were able to evade police. No injuries from the shooting have been reported

The suspects were last seen in a black SUV with possible paper registration plates. A detailed description of the suspects has not been released at this time.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. If you have any information regarding the shooting, armed robberies, or carjacking, you’re asked to call police.
