MANASSAS, Va. — Police described a horrific series of events that left two men dead and another in critical condition.
Around 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Prince William County Police responded to multiple 911 calls, that there was a stabbing happening inside the JATC/NECA IBEW Local 26 facility on Infantry Ridge Road in Manassas.
"When officers arrived on the scene they were confronted by a suspect at the front door, who was armed with a knife. The officers fired and the suspect was hit and pronounced here on the scene," said Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham.
"We come to find out suspect had actually stabbed two folks inside the training facility. One of them is deceased. One was taken to a local hospital in critical condition," said Newsham.
The identities of the suspect, nor the victims have been released at this time. Police are working to determine if the suspect was enrolled at the facility or if he was connected to the facility in any way.
Police kept much of the area taped off into the night, Tuesday.
"I've seen a couple of images inside it's horrific. You have folks who come out here to do some training and the next you know one has lost his life and another is struggling for his life in a local hospital. I can't imagine what the families are going through right now," said Newsham.
The Prince William County Police Department says the regional Critical Incident Response Team will oversee the investigation. CRIT is made up of police departments from 10 jurisdictions across the region.
Officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting. Prince William County Police have a policy that states in situations like these they have 30 days to review the footage. Once reviewed, they will decide whether or not it will be made public.
