Man accused of exposing himself to women along Takoma Park trail

At least six women reported being approached by a man along Sligo Creek Trail.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — Maryland-National Capital Park Police are searching for a man accused of exposing himself or actively masturbating along trails in Takoma Park.

At least six women reported being approached by a man along Sligo Creek Trail. The incidents took place between July 14 and Aug. 17 on Carroll and Garland Avenue.

Thankfully, the suspect didn't harm any of the women who reported the incidents. Police say the women were able to scare him off and run away.

Those who frequent the trail tell WUSA9 the incidents are concerning.

“Will definitely make me look over my shoulder a little bit,” one jogger said.

John Martin, who has lived in the area for a few years now, said he tries to walk with his wife when he can, for added safety.

“It would make sense now, until this all clears up, that people don’t walk alone and that people are vigilant. Walk with someone else and keep your eyes open,” Martin said.

Police say the suspect is a Hispanic male, between 20 and 30 years old. In three of the incidents, he was described as wearing a blue bucket hat with “Lilo and Stitch” graphics.

Park Police said they have since increased patrols in the area. Police are also advising people to walk with a friend or in groups if possible and always be aware of your surroundings.
