DAMASCUS, Md. — Montgomery County police say a group of burglars used a Hyundai sedan as a battering ram to smash their way into a Damascus gun shop early Sunday morning and steal multiple firearms and an undisclosed amount of ammunition.
Officers responded to a report of a break-in at AM Shooting Supply in the 26100 block of Ridge Road shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. The store is located in a shopping center near the intersection of Ridge Road and Bethesda Church Road. Police arrived and determined suspects had forcibly entered the store by crashing a Hyundai sedan into the door.
Investigators said the suspects then stole an undisclosed number of firearms and ammunition before fleeing in a second vehicle.
Police did not immediately release suspect descriptions.
The case was being investigated by detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department's Firearms Investigation Unit.
According to Montgomery County's Open Data Portal, police have investigated 16 burglaries or breaking and entering cases in Damascus so far this year. Police have been called on an additional 15 larceny investigations and eight cases of theft from a building.
