WASHINGTON — The Metropolitan Police Department said 14-year-old Avion Evans shot and killed inside D.C.’s Brookland-CUA Metro station in Northeast on Thursday evening.
Now, 24 hours later, police are searching for the alleged shooter captured on surveillance footage.
The alleged shooter was last seen wearing a black jacket, black hoodie, blue jeans with black and white shoes.
Jordan Bonnardel, a D.C. teacher, told WUSA9 he was on his way home when he heard the gunshot.
“He was on the ground. He was not moving at all. They were moving him like a puppet. No response at all. I didn’t see any blood and I couldn’t see where he was shot because I left the station,” Bonnardel said.
Police said a group of teenagers were involved in a fight on the Metro platform.
The suspect, who was not involved in that fight, pulled out a gun and shot Evans.
It’s unknown how many shots were fired. Evans was pronounced dead on scene.
On Thursday, officials said special officers were already at the Metro station. They helped others take cover during the shooting and tried to help Evans.
As a father himself, Bonnardel, told WUSA9 it was a traumatic experience – one that’s hard to forget.
“I feel very bad for the kids and the family. I’m a dad and I can’t imagine receiving this call – your son or daughter was shot – must be terrible,” Bonnardel said.
The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a cash reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with any info leading to the arrest and conviction.
