According to a witnesses, three to five men got out of a silver four-door sedan and began to open fire into the storefront of the Giant Supermarket.

WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a group of men believed to have opened fire on a Giant grocery store in the Shaw neighborhood of D.C. Saturday night. One man was hospitalized as a result of the shooting.

At 9:55 p.m., officers with the Metropolitan Police Department were in the intersection of 7th and O Streets, Northwest when they heard the sound of gunshots coming from the area of 8th and O Streets, Northwest.

Witnesses told police at the scene that a silver four-door sedan, reportedly a Toyota, entered the 1400 block of 8th Street, Northwest, and three to five men stepped out of the car and began discharging their guns into the storefront of the Giant Supermarket nearby. Police say the group shattered the front store window and struck a victim with a round of gunfire. The victim was later identified as Gregory Girard Hoey Jr., and the extent of his injuries remains unknown. Police say Hoey Jr. drove himself to an area hospital after the shooting for treatment.

Detectives say the men who fired into the storefront and injured the man were last seen fleeing southbound on 8th Street, Northwest. They are wanted for assault with a dangerous weapon, endangerment with a firearm, and destruction of property in this shooting.

Officers did not find any gunshot victims at the scene.
