WASHINGTON — A 23-year-old Maryland has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a deadly shooting that happened over two years ago.
Jamaarr Morgan, 23, of Hyattsville, was sentenced in D.C. Superior Court to 12 years in prison for shooting and killing Jacques Russ on December 14, 2021.
Police say Morgan pleaded guilty on July 12, 2023 to voluntary manslaughter while armed.
On Friday, February 16 of the next year, a judge sentenced Morgan to 144 months, or 12 years, in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
According to the government's evidence, on December 14, 2021, Morgan came across Russ on 61 Street in Northeast, D.C. at 6:50 a.m. Russ was on his way to work. Morgan proceeded to pull out a gun and shoot Russ before fleeing the scene.
Russ's body was found lying in the street by someone passing by.
