WASHINGTON — D.C. Police arrested and charged a man on Friday in connection to a fatal shooting that happened in October 2023.
On Oct. 1, D.C. Police responded to McPherson Square for the sounds of gunshots. They then located 56-year-old Leo Colter, who was found slumped over a park bench in possession of drug paraphernalia. Police told WUSA9 in October that it was not initially apparent to officers and EMS that the victim was shot, and they suspected a drug overdose.
Colter was provided Narcan. He was pronounced dead at the scene short time later.
A medical examiner forensic investigator who responded to the scene found a gunshot wound on Colter's body, according to police. It was later determined Narcan was unnecessary. According to the CDC, Narcan does not harm someone who doesn't need it.
The man arrested in connection to the shooting is 41-year-old Marques Johnson of Northeast. He was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with first-degree murder while armed, according to police.
