Man on the run for 9 months connected to murder, arrested

The U.S. Marshals located Tyus James Terrell in Woodbridge, Virginia and placed him under arrest.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A man believed to be connected to a deadly shooting in November 2023, has been arrested and taken into custody.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals located Tyus James Terrell in Woodbridge, Virginia, and placed him under arrest. Police had been searching for Terrell since November after identifying him as a suspect in the death of 26-year-old Quatrail Raynard Smalls.

The shooting happened on Nov. 14, along Wharf Lane in Triangle. When officers arrived, Smalls was found suffering from injuries on the ground and was then taken to the hospital for treatment, where he later died.

Police issued a reward for anyone with information on Terrell's whereabouts. The original mugshot used showed Terrell with short locs. In an updated mugshot, it shows Terrell appeared to have cut his hair off.

Police said this wasn't a random incident and Terrell and Smalls knew one another. They have not said what led up to the shooting.

Terrell is being charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Terrell is being held without bond with a court case pending.
